Selena Gomez found herself blushing at the Golden Globes after host Nikki Glaser made an awkward joke about her romance with producer Benny Blanco. The couple, romantically linked since June 2023, announced their engagement in December, though details about their wedding plans remain under wraps.

Gomez attended the event for her dual nominations for Netflix’s Emilia Perez and Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building. During her opening monologue, Glaser humorously referenced the newly-engaged couple, saying, “A double nominee tonight for Emilia Perez and Only Murders, and she’s here with her new fiancé, Benny Blanco. And Benny Blanco is here because of the genie who granted him that wish.” This prompted awkward laughter from both Gomez and Blanco.

Blanco affectionately kissed Gomez on her shoulder, to which Glaser remarked, “Man, lucky guy,” continuing her playful teasing about the film, stating, “I love you. Selena, you are so good in Emilia Perez. I loved it so much… I think it is without a doubt the most audacious, groundbreaking film to ever autoplay after Is it Cake.”

This wasn’t the first time Gomez faced an unexpected question about her relationship. During an appearance on Late Show with Stephen Colbert, she was caught off guard when asked about her Thanksgiving with Blanco, particularly after Colbert showed a photo of them together. When he inquired about the direction of their relationship, Gomez was visibly stunned but managed to say, “You know what, I’m not sure, but I’m having a great time.”

Colbert humorously addressed Blanco directly, asking about his intentions with Gomez, which led her to exclaim, “Oh no.” She eventually confirmed that their relationship was positive, mentioning that Blanco cooked an entire Thanksgiving feast for 50 people himself.
