At 32, Gomez reflects on her 16-year music career, which includes touring and two Grammy nominations. However, she now believes she has outgrown the “pop star” lifestyle.

In a conversation with Saoirse Ronan for the publication’s Actors on Actors series, the multi-talented Gomez expressed her belief that her true strength lies in acting.

“I think my strong suit is probably acting. But I’m proud of my music for its storytelling—my favorite songs are mostly ballads that are transparent and honest,” she said. “But I think I might be a little too old for the pop star life. I’m genuinely happy to be in this new era of my life; in many ways, it’s just the beginning.”

Ronan praised Selena’s talents, especially her performance in her new film, Emilia Pérez. Selena responded, “That means a lot to me. I love storytelling, and my music career is separate, but I don’t see it as a forever thing.”

When Ronan inquired if she was speaking about her music career, Selena mentioned her boyfriend, music producer Benny Blanco, noting that music will always be a part of her life because of him.

“I’ll always have music in my life since my partner’s a musician, and I enjoy doing it for fun. It can be a bit vulnerable to put yourself out there compared to escaping into a character.”

Recently, Selena’s acting has garnered significant acclaim. She received two Golden Globe nominations: one for Best Supporting Actress in Emilia Pérez and another for Best Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy for Only Murders in the Building.

Emilia Pérez received a total of 10 nominations, including Best Motion Picture – Non-English Language and Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. It was also nominated for Best Original Score, Best Original Song for “Emilia Perez,” Best Screenplay, Best Director for Jacques Audiard, and Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for Karla Sofía Gascon.

After the nominations were announced, Selena shared a video of her shocked reaction when her name was read for Best Supporting Actress.

“I don’t even know what to write. I am so proud of Zoe, and I am so grateful and honored by the Golden Globes,” the former Justin Bieber girlfriend wrote in her Instagram Stories video.
