After leaked set photographs raised rumors that the WWE star had bulked up for the part, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has revealed that he is really wearing a bodysuit for the live-action Moana film.
In the live-action version of the wildly successful 2016 animation movie from Disney, Johnson plays the demigod Maui once more.
For the first time, Johnson was shown as Maui in recently released set images, leaving fans to question if the well-known Hollywood star had gained even more muscle for the part.
Johnson acknowledged using a bodysuit in an interview with Extra, but he seemed happy that some people believed he might have achieved the physique seen in the set pictures.
He remarked, “That suit took a long time to put on.” “So, I’m so happy you said, ‘You bulked up,’ because when you say, ‘You bulked up,’ that means you couldn’t tell.”
That’s a couple of hours a day of changing and putting that on,” he continued. When those photos appeared, I was like, “Sh*t, we got caught because we were putting up, like, walls so there was no paparazzi.” We had taken the photo outside. However, they boarded boats and began taking photos.
In addition to Johnson, Australian actress Catherine Laga’aia has been cast by Disney to play Moana in the film, which is scheduled for release on July 10, 2026. In May 2023, Auli’i Cravalho, who provided the voice of Moana in the 2016 animated movie, announced on Instagram that she will be an executive producer instead of reprising her role.
Moana 2, the animated follow-up, is anticipated to smash box office records when it opens this week. For more, see IGN’s review of Moana 2..
