A new interview with The Hollywood Reporter gives a rare look into Selena Gomez’s personal life. She talks about her relationship with Benny Blanco and her mental health.
When asked if she still has “a private life,” the 32-year-old actor said that she does. She got her start on Barney & Friends when she was 10 years old, three years before she was cast in Disney Channel’s Wizards of Waverly Place.
People don’t bother me at events like [my half sister] Gracie’s soccer games because I have things to do. She said, “No one really bothers me unless I’m in the whole to-do.”
When asked how she has dealt with tabloids and paparazzi for so long, the Grammy nominee said she “hangs out with people who aren’t really in the business that much.”
She also joked that she knew how to “lay low,” or try to remain anonymous, on date nights by hiding her face with a blanket so no one could take a picture of her.
Gomez did say that she feels safer posting pictures and videos with Blanco, 36, whom she started dating last year, than she did in the past.
“I feel safer in this relationship than any other I’ve been in,” she gushed. “I see a future with this person.” “And when you put a little out there, they don’t want to find you as much.”
But she told her fans that “people don’t see” “so much” of her friendship with Blanco that’s between them.
Gomez also let down her guard when she told THR that switching from singing to acting has saved her “sanity.”
She said, “It’s really scary to talk about music that may have been a part of your story but isn’t anymore.” It’s also hard for me to talk about myself. It’s wearing down.
Not at all like her press tour for her new movie, Emilia Pérez, where she said no one had ever asked her a “personal question.”
“In every interview I’ve done for this movie, not a single personal question has been asked. I’ve wanted to kiss every reporter on the cheek and say, “Thank you, because it’s been so refreshing,”‘ Gomez said. “I feel safer in that place.”
The singer of “Who Says” also said that being a big sister helped her be happy with her own life.
She said, “I knew I had to be a lot stronger than giving in to other people’s talk.” “Whenever I’m with her, I try to be strong but also open.” I really want to make things better for her.
When asked if her 11-year-old brother or sister knows about her fame and success, Gomez said that when they’re bowling or at Target together, it “doesn’t really bother them.”
“If we do, she’s used to it.” When she says, “I don’t really want to do what you do,” it makes me happy. Gomez added.
Gracie might want to follow in her footsteps, Gomez says, and she will “support whatever her dreams are.”
The singer said, “I knew when I was very young that I wanted to work in show business. I’m so thankful that she hasn’t thought I live a glittery life, because she wants that life.”
Gomez also made it clear that she doesn’t “sulk” over the fact that she didn’t get to be a kid.
It made me feel like I fit when I was younger to act. She said, “I got picked on a lot at school for being on Barney because I was way too old for it, but I loved it and I liked feeling like I belonged somewhere.”
Gomez said she still loves what she does after 20 years.
I am very happy with all parts of my life at the moment. I am proud of how far I have come. I’m in good health. I’m glad. “I feel calm,” the singer said.
The actress said she was “very confused” about all the Oscar talk about her most recent movie.
“Music will always be a part of me, but I never got to spend enough time in the field I wanted to be in,” she said of acting. “I’ve been very strategic and working hard to choose projects that will be interesting to me, not just what people think I should do.”
“That’s something that makes me feel good,” she said. The Emilia part was funny, though. I really thought it was going to be a movie that came out in France.
She was especially surprised by all the praise because she said she sometimes gets turned down for roles before she even has a chance to perform.
“We don’t tell them I’m auditioning so that they have to accept me,” she explained. “This is done in case they think I’m too young for a part or something else.”
Gomez also said, “Sometimes, they’ll say, “No, that won’t work for what we’re doing” just hearing that I want to try out.” “We’re going to hire people no one knows,” they say. Then they hire someone like Austin Butler, and I’m like, “Cool.” I’m not mad, though; it’s just how things are for me and that’s fine. What it really means is that I’m going to keep doing things that are hopefully interesting and unique.
She doesn’t use a fake name, but she has sent in tapes where “they don’t know it’s” her or where her bosses say they “have a client that’ll have a read.”
