Kevin Hart understands why Tom Brady had some regrets about the wildly successful “Roast of Tom Brady” Netflix special that dropped in May.
“I can side with time and see where he’s coming from and just him wanting to protect the idea of family and the conversation attached to that. That’s probably where that’s coming from,” the comedian, 45, recently said during an interview with Bleacher Report.
“And you know, I’m not privy to whatever he dealt with after, so I know his response and saying something about it was a result of possibly that.”
Kevin Hart told Bleacher Report that he understands why Tom Brady had regrets about “The Roast of Tom Brady” Netflix special that debuted in May.
After the May 5 roast, Brady, 46, admitted on “The Pivot” podcast that he “didn’t like” the way his children were “affected” by the jokes made about his exes Gisele Bündchen and Bridget Moynahan.
“It’s the hardest part about the bittersweet aspect of when you do something that you think is one way and then all of a sudden you realize, ‘I wouldn’t do that again,’ because of the way that affected actually the people that I care about the most in the world,” he explained.
The retired NFL star shares 16-year-old son John “Jack” Edward Thomas with Moynahan, plus son Benjamin Rein, 14, and daughter Vivian Lake, 11, with his ex-wife, Bündchen.
Brady revealed on “The Pivot” podcast in May that he “didn’t like” the way his children were “affected” by the jokes.
He has three kids from previous relationships with Gisele Bündchen and Bridget Moynahan.
Brady, however, said he “loved” when the jokes were solely about him.
Hart suggested to Bleacher Report that the seven-time Super Bowl champion didn’t necessarily regret the roast but wished things were done differently.
“When he says he regretted doing it … I think he’s saying, ‘I could have tapered it a little differently, or [had] a conversation pre-[roast], of like, ‘Guys, let’s go and do this, but let’s not touch this or this,’” he said.
Hart added, “The idea of going all in and just saying, ‘I don’t care, because I know the world would love to see me being on the receiving end of s–t because I’m Tom Brady and I’ve been at the highest stage all my life,’ I think it was that.”
During the roast, Hart joked about Bündchen and her boyfriend, Joaquim Valente.
Nikki Glaser made a dig about Brady breaking up with Moynahan when she was pregnant
The “Get Hard” actor also praised Brady for going through with the roast, saying his participation was “necessary and of value” for “comedy and our climate of sensitivity.”
Brady’s reps did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment about Hart’s remarks.
During the special, both Hart and fellow comedian Nikki Glaser blasted Brady about his past relationships with the mothers of his three children.
“Tom, you’re the best to ever play for too long, you retired then came back then retired, I get it,” Glaser, 39, said. “It’s hard to walk away from something that isn’t your pregnant girlfriend.”
Hart suggested Brady probably doesn’t fully regret participating in the roast.
Instead, the comedian thinks he wishes he had set boundaries ahead of the show.
Moynahan, 53, and Brady had split long before they found out she was expecting Jack.
Brady was already seeing Bündchen when she made her pregnancy public, and the two of them were married for 13 years before divorcing in the fall of 2022.
When talking about the Brazilian model and her lover, jiu-jitsu master Joaquim Valente, Hart didn’t hold back.
