Selena Gomez recently announced that only her friends could leave comments on her Instagram pictures. This change was made in conjunction with the revelation that Hailey and Justin Bieber were expecting. Fans immediately drew links between Selena and Justin Bieber because of their previous relationship, but she made it clear that her choice to restrict comments was unrelated to him.
In an interview with The Today Show on May 2 and at the Rare Beauty 2024 Mental Health Summit, Selena disclosed that she blocked comments on her images to set limits and safeguard her mental health.
Selena, the most followed woman on Instagram, said, “This is just for me,” feeling powerful by setting this barrier. She has been open about her health issues, including receiving a bipolar disorder diagnosis in 2020. When Selena looked back on her path, she recognized the struggles she had before asking for assistance and called that period of her life the most agonizing.
Selena highlighted her contentment with her partner, Benny Blanco, and her life decisions, such as her choice to forego the 2024 Met Gala, while acknowledging obstacles. She also took satisfaction in her decision to seek assistance.
